If you or your child are thinking about entering college, you should have some serious reservations about where to attend school. The reason has far less to do with wild parties, reputation, and the programs they offer. The biggest deterrent for schools these days is the cost. The cost is high, but sometimes those starting college don’t bother to think about it.

The ideal situation for most college students is to start at a community college. The cost of the community college is very inexpensive. It can be a great way for a student who isn’t sure what they want to do with their life to get some experience taking classes and fulfill their general requirements while figuring out a path for college and their career.

The issue with the bigger schools is that there are students paying close to $100,000 dollars a year, and yet they are studying for a job that will pay them less than forty thousand a year. The math just doesn’t add up, and for that reason, there is no reason to spend the money on a big state school.

The problem is that students have little concept of the possible repercussions of their college choices. With the student loan business, it is out of sight and out of mind. This just makes for problems down the road. The key is to make students aware of the financial pitfalls of a big tuition school. If you need to, do some online printing to get them information that shows just how expensive it will be long term to go to a big school. Then they might be ready to change their minds. You don’t want to discourage anyone from getting an education, but you do want to make them aware of the potential financial disaster it can bring.
