Believe it or not, whether you’re in college currently or have graduated from college in the past may matter to the places you do personal business with. Being enrolled in college shows a commitment to better yourself and make more money. Getting through college and successfully graduating shows that you can stick with something and that you want to continue to grow and learn. Those are both good things to show to the world, and some companies will give you discounts for them. In other words, college isn’t just a help for people trying to get ahead professionally — it can save you money in your personal life, too.
Cheaper car insurance is one of the biggest perks for people who are either in or have graduated from college. Many insurers give discounts for educational level, and/or for students who are actively enrolled in higher education. You may also get student discounts from other companies, like credit cards with lower interest rates, so be sure to ask. If you’re a little older and have gone back to school, call the companies you normally do business with and ask if they have student discounts. They might have a program you can qualify for, regardless of age, if you’re enrolled in an accredited college or university.
Naturally, there are many reasons to go to college. Learning for learning’s sake can be highly valuable, but most people are enrolled because they want a good job in a field they enjoy when they graduate. That makes sense, and is a great reason to go to college, but just don’t forget all the other little perks you may be able to get. You might be surprised at how much savings your education will really get you.
