No Excuse to Fail

They used to call the SAT the Scholastic Aptitude Test. Some people think that they changed it to the Scholastic Achievement Test in order to be politically correct or so as to not offend anybody who might be sensitive about their intelligence. But let’s be honest here — nobody is too dumb to succeed. And that is not just going by the example of fictional characters like Forrest Gump. Because anybody can succeed, there really is no excuse to fail. This is why acts such as No Child Left Behind are a little on the misguided side. And in the end, such acts end up hurting a lot of people.

For instance, we are coming to the point where people expect there to be immediate gratification, even in schools. The concept of school is to get children used to the idea that when they work with diligent effort over the long term, they can achieve great results such as a high paying job, a satisfying degree of control over their own world, and the ability to do what they like in their free time. However, when opponents of No Child Left Behind cite that there is no immediate reward for success, it implies that we have gotten to the point in our society where we need a reward for every individual action we do successfully.

Would you expect to be able to go on EarnMyDegree.com and then immediately be offered a six figure salary with a month of paid vacations each year? Not unless you want to be disappointed. No matter how great a degree program might be, you have to put in a protracted effort in order to receive any of its benefits. The fruits of your labors need to be cultivated, nurtured and given time to grow before you try to harvest them. Otherwise it’s like chopping down an apple tree to get the apples.

Sports are a large and lucrative industry around the world. The popularity of sports has increased with the advent of satellite television; people can watch soccer, football, basketball or NASCAR from almost anywhere in the world.

How can you get involved in the world of sports if you have little actual athletic talent?

Obtaining a sports management degree can make that dream a reality. Sports management careers allow people to combine several areas of interest such as sports, business and health; these people can touch on all sides of the sports industry including entertainment and business.

Sports management covers a large number of careers in the sports industry. A person with a sports management degree may handle the finances of a sporting organization, work on marketing plans for athletic events, or negotiate contracts or sponsorship deals for professional athletes. Other options include sports broadcasting, facilities management, public relations and athletic fund raising. Some people may decide to focus on the sports medicine side of sports management and may work to improve athletes’ health and mental well-being. No matter the role, people in sports management may work odd hours with night and weekend travel. A person in sports management may also look for positions at any level of sports – recreation leagues, college, semi-professional or professional.

Sports management degree courses can be varied. Students may take courses in accounting, management, economics, and marketing as part of a sports management curriculum. International students as well as domestic students are not fully funded for the entire term of their education. To make up for the difference they will have to look out for jobs that they can use to pass time and earn money.
