Game Based Learning

We have seen how education has evolved from classrooms to home, from school teaching to e-learning, from teachers to some online tutor whom you don’t ever see, from books to online notes and presentations, from black board to projectors. Technology has helped in numerous ways to help the education system to develop in innovative ways that make learning entertaining. Even sites such as http://www.direct.tv have been designed to be more interactive and user-friendly now. A few decades ago when parents thought that children are getting addicted to television the school took this opportunity to make television as a source of education. By making visual clips and small documentary movies it’s seen that students enjoy this type of learning than the boring class room lectures. Now it has been seen that in today’s generation computers have overpowered the television and what best they do with is apart from browsing, listen music, watch movies is Games. A youngster getting addicted to games is a nightmare for any parent. Hence some institutions have started what we call is game based learning.

Why not make games in which students learn while playing games. Imagine having joysticks in your hands not books and pens. Coming to schools will be more interesting. Games of different categories are used to make the environment more educative. There are games made for all ages. Like to teach English alphabets for the beginner games are made to let them play with the alphabets and teach math to students who felt math was always boring. Many students try to co relate their subjects to what game they play. There are other games made especially for increasing the students’ general knowledge, their ability to improve lateral thinking skills and their approach to solve puzzles. It is observed that their brains are easily manipulated by playing games. Subjects like math, history, geography can be learned in a very interesting fashion. Many take gamming as their career in future.

Do Americans Need More Intensive Teaching Methods?

Recently Amy Chua, a well known American author of Chinese Heritage published a book called “Battle Hymns of the Tiger Mother”. This book is available at Amazon and it describes why students of North East Asian Heritage including Chinese do so well in schools, colleges and Universities throughout America and what is the secret to their success.

One major reason Amy Chua feels for Asian success is the intense and pushy training parents impart to their kids. Until the 1950s American parents also used to be pushy and demanding from their kids, so that kids used to feel like little adults and they participated fully in family business, household chores and most definitely education.

However, during 1960s and after, North American parents became more permissive and less demanding to their children and this led to a low intensity education and poorer work ethic. This resulted in the decline of Western prosperity and a rise in mediocrity and a contempt for excellence. Nowadays. the widespread popularity of the wireless internet also proves to be another distraction for children of all races.

Amy Chua feels that Asian and especially Chinese mothers are culturally predisposed to highly intensive parenting and this stern demand from children to pursue excellence is one major reason why White children are rapidly declining in education and job prospects while Asian kids are rapidly cornering all the technology and brain intensive high quality and high paying jobs.

Education in Asian households is not just limited to science and Math but also extra-academic activities such as music, painting, intensive arts and crafts.

This serves as a great stimulant for mind and body and keeps the children positively engaged in the direction of excellence and performance while protecting them from television and mediocrity.

Every year, the holidays arrive and everyone fills with a bit of extra friendliness. Well, except in the crowded parking lots at the stores maybe! The holidays come in rapid succession, culminating in the bringing in of the next year. Spirits rise even higher as the end of one year approaches. It’s all about memories and what one accomplished in the prior 51 weeks. During the last week of the year, many thoughts turn toward what one wants to accomplish in the year ahead. Resolutions are made, parties attended, and hangover cures researched.

Then comes the downslope as many individuals look right past Valentine’s Day – which depresses a lot of single people anyway – straight through to Tax Day on April 15. The few people who look forward to tax day seem to be tax accountants who make quite a bit of money in quite a short period of time. Tax season costs everybody else not only money, but time as well as they research any applicable new tax laws that will affect them and how to handle the changes. More than paying their taxes, which a lot of people seem to feel is a patriotic duty besides also being a law, a lot of people dread the time spent pouring over numbers.

Solutions to the mathematics of taxes have come down the pipe in various forms over the years. There is software that one can download onto a computer to guide the way through the darkness of the number trenches. Picking up an H&R Block keycode is a way to save money on getting professional tax work happening. If you’re not sure about newer methods of getting taxes done, this could be the year that you just stick to the old tried and true method of using a paper and pencil. But that’s going to use up a lot of your free time!

Seating Arrangement in Class

Ever questioned why schools have seating arrangements or when you were in school why the teacher makes u sit in one place all the time. Or you might think this why were you so comfortable with your particular place in class room that you sat the whole year?? It is because you get comfortable with the surroundings around you. It is that particular place you like to spend the whole day during your classes.
We make our friends our neighbors and get open with them. When no teachers are around we get brave to even start up a fight. And when the teacher comes in and finds you misbehaving the first thing they do is change your place. It is more like divide and rule. Taking you away from the place where u had all the power and separating you from the neighbors to some lone isolated place in the class, which could be your haunted region of class room. This helps the teacher to regain control of the class room as they are the one who rule at the end. Most teachers leave the first seat in the middle row empty during teaching to keep notes etc so that they run back and forth to their desk again and again and can keep all the students in their view all the time. If they find any student being mischiefs they make them sit in that seat so they realize their mistakes and mould themselves because of the humiliation the faced. It will also have that particular student in teacher’s view all the time which avoids further misbehaving. Most teachers re arrange the seating arrangement everyday so that the student is in new place all the time. It also helps to make new friends and gain confidence of the student as they mingle with everyone in the class.

Labs and Scientists

Scientists are considered geeks by profession. In the world there is one scientist to every 1000 people. They are considered to have big egos. Scientists are also considered to be half crazy by everyone. To a scientist his whole world is the lab where he spends a considerable part of his day. It can also be considered as a church where the scientist practices what he preaches. A sanctuary where he and his ideas can find a safe sanctuary and grow to new heights without the criticisms of other people who do not understand them. The lab is where he lets in his colleagues who can understand him and his dreams to discover the next big scientific breakthrough. The whole lab is illustrated with data and graphs which he uses to preach to others. He is immersed in his own theories and his own truths. He has the huge task of convincing the sponsors who pay for the resources he uses in his lab. Along with this the scientists have to convince the tax payers about the advantages of her research, The problem with a scientist is that he has lost his social skills. The language which common people use seems to be a distant alien language. He starts looking at everything in terms of science and explaining everything with proofs and theorems. Just so that people can understand the scientist has to use the language of the common people and explain it to every one. He constantly fears other scientists nullifying his ideas and causing his reputation as a scientist to crash. He is paranoid about people pointing fingers at her research and hence hides in the lab for the better part of the day. What every they do is for the improvement of the world and to help other scientists to use their research to solve much bigger discoveries or solve better questions.
